The Carmel Clay Public Library provides delivery service of books and audiovisual materials to patrons living in Clay Township who are unable to come to the library due to extended or acute illness, physical disabilities or other extenuating circumstances. This service is coordinated by a Readers' Advisory Librarian in Reference Services. This service is greatly appreciated by homebound patrons; many of them have commented that without this service they would not be able to enjoy reading or listening to books and watching movies.
Selection of materials is made by library staff based on patron interests and requests. Audiovisual materials as well as books may be selected. Deliveries are made by volunteers on a schedule that is compatible to both the patron and the volunteer, usually every three weeks or once a month. Loan periods are based on the delivery schedule and renewals are permitted unless there are holds on the materials.
The library would not be able to provide this service without its generous volunteers. Homebound volunteers pick up bags of materials at the Readers' Advisory desk and deliver them to the homebound patrons. Some homebound patrons live in their own homes; others live in assisted living residences, retirement facilities or nursing homes.
If you desire homebound service, know someone who would like this service, or wish to become a homebound volunteer, call the Readers' Advisory desk at 814-3987.
