Carmel Clay Reads 2017

As part of the library’s Investigate: Science and Technology programming theme, the Carmel Clay Public Library has chosen the book Spare Parts: Four Undocumented Teenagers, One Ugly Robot and the Battle for the American Dream by Joshua Davis as the first Carmel Clay reads title of 2017.

This nonfiction title is the amazing story of a group of Mexican immigrant teenagers and two supportive teachers in Phoenix. With little money, they build an underwater robot and enter competitions until finally they compete with the best of the best with incredible results.

Even if you are not interested in robots or robotic competition, the book provides plenty of human drama in this story of hope. As one reviewer said “{the book} is both heartwarming and heartbreaking.”
