The Keeper of Lost Causes
by Adler-Olsen, Jussi
Plot/Summary:
Homicide Detective Carl Moerk nearly died in a shoot-out
that claimed the life of one officer and paralyzed
another. Since his return to work, guilt over his
inability to draw his gun during the attack has made him
belligerent around his fellow officers. In a political
move that transfers him out of the department and
satisfies the government's promise to solve more cases,
Moerk is made the head of Department Q and sent to the
basement to run his department of one. He finds
discrepancies in a police report on the disappearance of a
young female politician traveling on a ferry bound for
Germany five years earlier. When Moerk reopens the case,
he is drawn into an unimaginable nightmare.
Comments:
The Keeper of Lost Causes successfully blends the
best of the police procedural with nail-biting suspense in
a winning crime novel. It is the first novel in a series
and was written by a best-selling Scandinavian crime
writer new to American audiences. Readers who enjoy
crime fiction by authors such as Val McDermid or Jo Nesbo
should check out this new series.
