The Prophet
by Koryta, Michael
Plot/Summary:
Brothers Adam and Kent have not spoken in years. Although
they live in the same Ohio town, they live significantly
different lives. Kent is the revered head football coach
at the local high school, has an adoring wife and two
small children and makes regular visits to the local
prison to pray with the inmates. Adam is a bail
bondsman, a borderline alcoholic and lives on the fringe
of society. When the brothers were teenagers, their
sister Marie was brutally murdered while walking home from
school. Now, some twenty years later, another girl is
murdered and each brother has a connection to the recently
deceased.
Comments:
After writing several supernatural thrillers, Koryta
returns to crime fiction with this tightly-plotted tale of
family bonds, grief and vengeance. The story combines
small-town sports drama with page-turning suspense as the
compelling lead characters search for redemption. More
than just a mystery, this is the story of how two brothers
cope with a devastating loss and the ties that bind family
and community. Fans of Harlan Coben or the television show
Friday Night Lights may enjoy this first-rate
offering from Koryta.
