Complete any of the Summer Challenge activities to earn points. Many of the activities can be repeated as often as you like. For each activity you complete and record online, you will earn points. Points earned are redeemed for prizes.
Caregivers, you can manage your children's activities from your account and log points of multiple family members at once.
As always, library staff are available to answer your questions and assist you as you take on the Summer Challenge.
What are the starting and ending dates of the Summer Challenge?
The Summer Challenge begins May 22 and ends August 14. All points must be logged within those dates.
What are the prizes?
Available prizes are here. Prizes are available while supplies last and are subject to change.
What is the last day to claim Summer Challenge prizes?
All Summer Challenge prizes must be claimed by August 14. No prizes will be awarded after August 14.
Who can participate in the Summer Challenge?
The Summer Challenge is open to everyone regardless of age. Infants, children, teens, and adults are all welcome to participate in the challenge.
Do I have to live in Carmel to participate?
No, everyone is welcome to participate in Summer Challenge.
Do I have to have a library card to participate?
No, you do not have to have a library card to participate; however, without a library card, you will not be able to complete some of the challenges.
Do I have to have an email address to participate?
An email address is needed to participate in Summer Challenge. If you do not have an email address, library staff can help you register using a workaround solution.
Do I have to read/listen to library books or can I read/listen to books I already own?
You can read/listen to any books as you participate in Summer Challenge. The books you choose to read/listen to do not have to be library books.
Where do I go to pick up my prizes?
You can pick up prizes at the public service desks in the following areas: Children’s, Young Adult, Adult, or Audiovisual.
Can a family member/friend give their points to me?
No, points can not be shared.
What happens if I don’t use my points before the Summer Challenge ends?
Points do not carry over from year to year. Any points not spent by the end of Summer Challenge are lost.
Do I have to go online to enter my points, or can I keep track of them on paper?
A paper tracker is available if you would prefer to keep track of the number of points you have earned on paper. If you prefer a paper tracker, you will keep up with the number of points you have earned and bring the paper tracker with you when you are ready to claim prizes. Library staff will enter the points you have earned as reflected on the tracker into your account.

Yes, you will need to enter your information each year you participate.
Can my baby/toddler participate?
The Summer Challenge is open to everyone, infants through adults. There are special activities for infants and toddlers. Please visit the Children’s desk for a list of activities for infants and toddlers.
I run a preschool/daycare/daycamp, how can we participate?
We welcome groups to participate in the Summer Challenge using the group registration option. This will allow the group leader to track the number of points the group earns collectively. The group leader will also be able to pick up prizes for the group.
