Preschool & Elementary Teacher Resources

Are you and your class getting ready to begin a new theme or study a specific topic in science or era in history? Just let us know by clicking on the Themes-to-Go link, and we can help streamline your planning by pulling print and A/V materials tailored to your curriculum needs. Just fill out your Themes- to-Go request and submit it to us at least 1 week prior to the time that you will need the materials, and the items will be pulled for you and waiting at the Children's Reference Desk. All you have to do is pick them up and check them out!

Note: All items are subject to availability. We will generally collect up to 20 items per request. This service is only provided to K-5 teachers who teach within Clay Township, homeschooling parents, and preschools or daycares located within Clay Township.


Parent/Teacher Collection

Because parenting and teaching are two of the most important and most difficult jobs in the world, we make every effort to provide resources to support our parents and teachers. Covering a broad assortment of issues and interests, some of the topics you will find in this section include child development, activities to do with children, early literacy development ideas for parents and teachers, curriculum tie-ins, lesson plans by subject or theme, unit guides, parenting special needs children, behavior management for home and school, and games to play with children.

The Carmel Clay Public Library Children's Department is happy to come to your classroom or school to interact with your students and staff. The following services are offered:


Classroom Visits and Library Fieldtrips

Visits to classrooms are tailored to meet the specific needs of the class and focus on developing specific research or information skills. Motivational visits to promote library usage and a love of reading are also available.

Class fieldtrips to the library generally involve a tour of the Children's Department and a structured storytime or specific research activity. While programs can vary in length and be customized to your needs, the approximate program duration is 60 to 90 minutes. Class visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and should be scheduled a minimum of two weeks in advance to allow for appropriate staffing arrangements. However, teachers are encouraged to schedule their visits as far in advance as possible to ensure their first-choice date.

To discuss a classroom visit or schedule a library fieldtrip, call the children's department at 844-3363 and ask to speak to Sharon or Elizabeth. Please schedule your visit or fieldtrip at least two weeks prior to the desired date. Class visits and library fieldtrips are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Preplanning and early scheduling are encouraged, as visits are limited to staff availability.


Presentations or Information Tables at School Meetings or Events

CCPL staff members are available to visit your school on planning days or during open houses. We're honored to have the opportunity to speak with teachers and parents. Teacher presentations generally last 20 to 30 minutes and provide an overview of the materials and services that we offer to teachers and students, but can be customized to your specific interest. During open houses, we are available to set up a booth and talk to parents about our services for families and students and to provide library card applications.
