Teen Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in volunteering at the Carmel Clay Public Library? Join the Teen Volunteer Corps! The Teen Volunteer Corps is for teens in 6 - 12 grade. Teen volunteers are a very important part of the Carmel Clay Public Library. The library uses teen volunteers in a variety of activities and for many different programs.
To join the Teen Volunteer Corps, you must fill out a Teen Volunteer Corps Application. Pick one up at the Young Adult Services desk on the 2nd floor of the library. The application requires a parent's signature and the name of another adult reference.
If you have been accepted as a teen volunteer, you may begin volunteering at the library. You will be added to our mailing list and will receive the Teen Volunteer Corps letter once a month that lists all the volunteer opportunities for the upcoming month. You are welcome to volunteer for any opportunity that fits your interests and schedule as long as it has not already been filled by another teen volunteer. From month to month the library's volunteer needs vary. We can not guarantee all teens who are interested will be able to volunteer each month. We also can not guarantee a certain number of volunteer hours for any volunteer. Please come in and check the Teen Volunteer Corps Sign-In Notebook to see what volunteer opportunities are currently available. Check out This Month's Volunteer Opportunities.
Here is a sampling of the kinds of jobs that Teen Volunteer Corps members are involved with during the school year:
Friends of the Library Book Sale AssistantOver thirty reliable and motivated teen volunteers assist with organizing, restocking, bagging and carrying book sale items during the library's three day book sale event.

Special Summer Opportunities: Become a Summer Reading Program Desk AssistantEvery summer, the Young Adult Department needs several helpful and responsible desk assistants for its Summer Reading Program. Assistants are responsible for enthusiastically promoting and explaining the Young Adult Summer Reading Program to other 6th - 12th graders, registering readers, entering reading data, and awarding prizes at the Young Adult desk. Volunteers also help with the Summer Reading Program in the Children's Department by staffing the Summer Reading Program store located in the Children's Storytime Room. Volunteers hand out prizes, keep statistics, and help keep the store tidy.
Interested teen volunteers should be both customer service oriented (friendly and polite) and detail oriented (careful and conscientious). Summer Reading Program Desk Assistants work during the nine/ten week period between June and August. Volunteers work one two-hour shift a week. Available shifts are Monday - Saturday: 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, or 3-5 p.m. All interested teens must fill out and turn in a special Summer Desk Assistant application and attend a two-hour orientation session. Summer Desk Assistant applications are available at the Young Adult desk in April. Space for this volunteer opportunity is limited, so all applications are reviewed carefully. If accepted, applicants are scheduled for a shift in the order that their applications have been received.
