Year Zero
Year Zero by Rob Reid (Science Fiction, Fantasy, Science, Health)
Once again, brilliant premise. Aliens have been listening to the radio waves of Earth for years enjoying all of its great music. Then they found out about copyright laws and realized they owe all of the money in the known universe. So to avoid debt, they decide it's better just to blow up the Earth. Great great idea. The copyright satire is perfect, but all of the science-fiction mythology feels weak and not as interesting. -- Added by ARileyL on 02/21/2013

Affairs of Steak
Affairs of Steak by Julie Hyzy (Mystery, Horror, Crime, Business, Politics)
This wasn't a strong as her other White House mysteries, but Ollie is still a fun character who can make the mysteries light but never inconsequential. -- Added by ARileyL on 02/21/2013

Taft 2012
Taft 2012 by Jason Heller (Romance, Women's Fiction, Relationships, Humor)
This book had a fantastic premise of what would happen if President Taft randomly showed up in modern day and how would that be used politically by the 24-hour news cycles. Unfortunately it was never as funny as it could be. The FOX News stuff was great, but the comedic set-pieces were never as strong. -- Added by ARileyL on 02/21/2013

Timewyrm
Timewyrm by Paul Cornell (Science Fiction, Fantasy, Science, Health)
Of course I read Doctor Who books. This was my first by Paul Cornell who went on to write for the new series. It concluded the four-parter with a very epic quality but still had too many subplots that weren't necessary. When dealing with The Doctor and Ace though, it was top-notch. -- Added by ARileyL on 02/21/2013

The Revolution Was Televised
The Revolution Was Televised by Alan Sepinwall (Historical Fiction, Westerns, History)
I'm not sure what category this book falls into so if I put the wrong one, edit away powerful admins. This is a great book by the most popular TV critic working today charting the 12 TV shows that led to this current revolution in high quality TV dramas. Although a lot of the history I already knew, this was still a very engaging read that made me want to revisit some of these amazing shows especially The Sopranos and LOST. -- Added by ARileyL on 01/15/2013

NOS4A2
NOS4A2 by Joe Hill (Mystery, Horror, Crime, Business, Politics)
I adore Joe Hill and this is easily his most ambitious book. Just under 700 pages, this is a great horror story of a very bad man and his very bad car. I hate to compare Hill to his father (Stephen King) but this was the first book that felt like one of his dad's. This was a better version of It that felt more personal to its characters and actually nailed the ending. Very recommended as well as Hill's first two novels. -- Added by ARileyL on 01/15/2013
