Early Literacy and School Readiness
Supporting and encouraging the growth and development of early literacy skills and school readiness in children is a priority in the children's department and has led to the development of Carmel Clay Public Library's early literacy program: Ready…Set…READ! This multifaceted program directs many of the programming and educational services the department offers, including:
Storytimes: Focusing on key early literacy skills, all storytimes combine stories, fingerplays, action rhymes, music, and interaction while supporting and practicing critical early literacy skills.
Early Learning Area: Featuring hands-on activities and numerous opportunities for adult/child interactions, this area encourages skill development through play.
Collections: Featuring a wide assortment of materials for children of all ages, our collections enable children and their caregivers to enjoy the world of reading together.
Publications: Including a wide variety of items ranging from recommended booklists to our Countdown to Kindergarten activity calendar, each of these publications focuses on connecting children and their caregivers with books and activities that encourage the development and practice of key early literacy skills.
