Authors Rosso and Lukins founded the stylish New York gourmet food shop and catering firm "The Silver Palate." In this, their first co-authored cookbook, they included chapters on appetizers, soups, main courses, pastas, vegetables, salads, cheeses and breads, sweets, brunch ideas, and basics (such as stocks and sauces). The recipes are fancy but not hard to follow--excellent fare for cooks who want to impress their guests. Main courses include "Pheasant with Leek and Pecan Stuffing," "Flank Steak Mosaic," and "Chicken Marbella." The authors have also included a wide variety of pasta dishes, such as "Tortellini with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce" and "Pasta Puttanesca." "Pinwheel Fruit Tart" and "Old Fashioned Lemon Pie" are among the tempting dessert offerings.
The book's reader-friendly format includes sidebar tips, brief histories of foods, sample menus for various occasions, and even quotes from famous--and apparently infamous--gourmands. The excellent index provides extra access to the wealth of information available; cooks searching for recipes that feature a specific ingredient will find it helpful. Rosso and Lukins are also authors of The Silver Palate Good Times Cookbook, The New Basics Cookbook, Great Good Food (Rosso) and All Around the World Cookbook (Lukins).
