The women soon form a strong friendship that gives them joy amidst their hardship and inspires them to persevere.

Comments:
Hosseini follows his popular first novel The Kite Runner with a beautiful, heart-wrenching story of friendship and sacrifice. A Thousand Splendid Suns spans thirty years of jihad, civil war, and Taliban rule in late 20th century Afghanistan and Hosseini interweaves the story of his country with that of two resilient women. This lyrical and emotionally powerful novel will keep readers turning its pages well into the night.
